FAQ: Sunrise UI for Veeva CRM

Updated March 2019

General Questions about Sunrise UI

When will Sunrise UI be released to customers?

  • Windows offline devices — customers will receive Sunrise UI with the 19R1 release (Sandbox – March 2019, Production – April 2019)
  • iOS offline devices — Sunrise UI was launched August 10, 2018 with the 18R2 production release

Will there be an upgrade for the online browser platform?
The Sunrise UI is focused on Veeva’s mobile platform UI while the online browser uses Salesforce.com’s UI. Veeva plans to be Salesforce Lightning compatible in 2019 in parallel with classic Salesforce UI.

(Note: Lightning is a Salesforce capability; all questions around Lightning should be referred to Salesforce documentation.)

How much does the Sunrise UI cost?
The Sunrise UI is included in your existing Veeva CRM license.

What will happen with Veeva Medical CRM?
Medical users will continue to have a unique experience after the Sunrise upgrade without affecting existing capabilities (language, profiles, etc.). Veeva CRM for Medical will be merged onto a unified Veeva CRM app. After this unification, IT teams need to manage only one application for deployment going forward. There are no costs associated with this and no configuration changes are required.

Sunrise UI on Veeva CRM for Windows

Will Sunrise UI on Windows look like Sunrise UI on iPad?
Yes, the Sunrise UI on Windows will look as close as possible to the Sunrise UI on iPad. Where it makes sense, instead of using standard iOS controls, we will use standard Windows controls. One of the main objectives for the Sunrise UI is to align the user experience across the mobile platforms, so as a user switches between different devices, they are able to transition seamlessly, without needing additional training.

What are the technical requirements for Sunrise UI on Windows?
No specific technical requirements are needed for the Sunrise UI on Windows. However, as previously announced in 17R3, Veeva CRM on Windows requires customers to upgrade to Windows 10 Build 16299 (Fall Creators Update, version 1709) in 19R1.

Are there configuration changes needed to enable Sunrise UI?
As we are aligning the Veeva CRM on Windows more closely to the Veeva CRM on iPad, administrators should review their existing Veeva CRM on Windows configuration and make the necessary changes for certain features. We will provide further details as we get closer to the release.

What does the end user experience when upgrading to Sunrise UI on Windows in 19R1?
With the release of the Sunrise UI, and the upgrade to Windows 10 and the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) application on Veeva CRM on Windows in 19R1, users will install a brand new application. After the upgrade is released to the orgs, users need to perform a last sync on the classic application in 18R3, install the new application, and perform an initial sync before being able to use Veeva CRM 19R1.

Can customers continue to use 18R3 after 19R1 is released?
Veeva recommends that all customers deploy the new Sunrise Windows application on the day that the upgrade is available to immediately take advantage of the new features and UI introduced in 19R1. While the 18R3 application will still be available to use and to install, Veeva will no longer provide updates or bug fixes to that application when 19R1 becomes available.

Questions about Windows 10

Why is Veeva CRM requiring customers to move to Windows 10?
Windows 10 Build 16299 (Fall Creators Update, version 1709) includes the introduction of the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) technology, making it easier to support applications across various hardware devices.

In addition, Microsoft already announced their end of life strategy for Windows 8.0 and 8.1. They ended mainstream support on January 9th, 2018 and end the extended support for these two products on January 20th, 2023.

Is there a specific version of Windows 10 that we need to be on?
Veeva CRM on Windows customers are required to upgrade to Windows 10 Build 16299 (Fall Creators Update, version 1709) in order to install Veeva CRM 19R1.

Does content need to be re-tested and updated for Veeva CRM on Windows?
In 19R1, Veeva CRM on Windows will utilize the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) framework in Windows 10. In this framework, the WebView technology that displays CLM content uses the Microsoft Edge rendering engine. (In prior versions of Veeva CRM on Windows the Internet Explorer 11 rendering engine is used.) The MS Edge rendering engine supports modern HTML5 standards, similar to the iOS rendering engine used in Veeva CRM on iPad. All existing CLM content must be re-tested, and may require HTML content updates to render properly.

We recommend customers, and their agency partners, review content when the Windows Evaluation app is available on January 11, 2019. There is no way to automate the process, and all CLM content must be reviewed manually.

Windows Evaluation App

What is the Windows Evaluation app?
The evaluation app serves two main purposes:

  • Allows administrators to test the install of the new Universal Windows Platform (UWP) installer
  • Allows content creators to verify the display and functionality of CLM and MyInsights content using the new UWP framework and MS Edge rendering engine

The evaluation app is not designed to be deployed to the field force. It is intended to help prepare technical and documentation teams for the Veeva CRM on Windows release in 19R1.

When will the Windows Evaluation app be available?
The evaluation app was made available to customers on January 11, 2019.

Will there be updates to the Windows Evaluation app?
At this time, Veeva does not plan to have a different version of the Windows Evaluation app. Sunrise UI on Windows will be very similar to Sunrise UI on iPad, therefore, Windows customers can use the screenshots previously provided for iPad or download the iPad application to become more familiar with the Sunrise UI.

How do we log tickets for the evaluation app?
Tickets for the evaluation version should be opened with Veeva Support.

Sunrise UI on Windows Readiness

How do we prepare for the update?
The Sunrise UI is intuitive and easy to use. After an initial understanding of the new icons and navigation patterns, users should be able to use the application without additional training.

Documentation may need to be updated to reflect the new Sunrise UI screens. We expect to make Windows Sunrise screens available for download in February.
