EU Summit 2023 Preview: Elevating Quality Beyond Compliance

Nearly 1,000 European life sciences leaders will join the Veeva R&D and Quality Summit on 6-7 June in Madrid. In the Quality Zone, the content-rich agenda centers on elevating quality beyond compliance, and leading companies will share different ways to approach this theme within your organization. Here’s a quick roundup of what you can expect during the two-day Summit, including a preview of key customer sessions and our upcoming roadmap announcements.

Leaders share insights on the four pillars of quality management

Customer speakers will explain how they are modernizing their approach to quality management across four key pillars:

  1. Operational excellence and efficiency. After years of operating within a fragmented quality system landscape, simplification and harmonization are now business priorities. Sanofi, Medac, and Haleon will discuss how unified and connected quality systems result in simpler processes and efficiency gains while meeting regulatory requirements.
  2. Collaboration across the value chain. While companies have established quality processes and controls accordingly, today’s development and supply chain operations rely on a variety of external partners. Modern quality systems need to facilitate seamless collaboration with external stakeholders, particularly when sharing data and content with external partners. Almac will speak about its journey toward streamlined partner collaboration with Veeva Vault QMS.
  3. Continuous improvement. Organizations that foster continuous improvement leverage real-time data and insights. A data-driven quality approach, focused on proactivity and quality improvement, will help accelerate the drug development process and commercial manufacturing up to the point that batches could be released in real time.
  4. Many biopharma companies are advancing continuous improvement in their organizations. During last year’s Summit, Poul Henning Poulsen, corporate vice president of quality systems at Novo Nordisk, explained how an agile approach to knowledge and risk management enabled his company to move into new therapy areas and complex manufacturing. In this year’s Quality Zone keynote, you will hear from Nicolás Maldonado, executive director of global quality systems and compliance at Gilead Science, about its mission to elevate quality standards across the company and foster closer collaboration with external partners.

  5. Competency-based training. Productivity is a critical success metric for training, evidenced by employees having the knowledge and skills to perform their jobs effectively. A successful training strategy goes beyond compliance to deliver a fully blended learning experience — so that the right training, centered on the right content, goes to the right people.
  6. Gilead will share its plans to increase automation and efficiency by adding GxP training to its unified quality platform; while Genmab will discuss how it’s transitioning from compliance-focused training to competency-based learning to improve the learner experience.
